NICK BANTOCK STYLE JOURNAL PAGE

This experimental journal spread featured a spray background (no stencils this time) utilizing Liquitex aerosol spray paints - a quick way to cover the background.  I also sprayed some picket fence white Distress Spray Stain randomly over the right side of the spread.  Magazine pictures were cut out and adhered with gel medium, while left side was stamped with a circular stamp several times to allow for some journaling which can be done at a later stage.  Pictures were outlined and smudged with a charcoal pencil - a small amount of Turquoise Pan Pastel was used around an image on the black portion of the page and then sprayed with Krylon matte sealer.  Two rub-ons from Tim Holtz were added to finish my composition.

NOTE:  THE RIGHT SIDE OF THIS SPREAD HAS NOW BEEN MATTED AND HANGS AS AN ART PIECE IN THE LIVING ROOM.

ZETTI STYLE JOURNAL PAGES

Here's my latest pages featuring Teesha and Tracy Moore's Zetti style.  I just joined for $5 monthly their new online endeavor The Artstronauts Club which provides lots of journaling workshops, altered book workshops and many artist videos.

Front - Size 5" x 7"
I found the pages easier to put together if I fused all the images to Wonder-Under and then adhered them to my colored water color paper page backgrounds using a mini-quilting iron.  No gluey mess or fingers to clean up.  Sharpies and gelly roll pens were used to further enhance my pages.  Way too much fun!

Bohemian Chic Tie Dye Journal

I've just completed a journal made from scratch using tie dye paper towels for the covers, as well as some of  the inside pages.  See my blog Altered-Artifacts for details on tie dyeing paper towels (scroll all the way down to the bottom of the blog).  Outside pages were fused to wonder under fusible webbing to add stability.  Inside paper towel pages were fused to white card stock with wonder under, and inside pages were coated with clear gesso for a super strong writing area.  The binding is rug hooking netting interlaced with complimentary dyed ribbons (torn muslin strips, as well as hem tape).  Journal fabricated utilizing techniques learned from Traci Bautista's DVD "Retro Rags" purchased from Creative Catalyst Productions.  Tie dye technique used my own variation of Traci's dyeing techniques outlined on video.  The dyes I used were Distress Ink Re-inkers from Ranger, Inc.  I love the beautiful colors!

Back
4/16/2015 - Note:  I've gone back and reworked the interior of this journal and will be filling it with Ingrid Dijkers' style journal pages.  She's one of the best and lives in Plymouth, Michigan, about 30 minutes from my house.  I've been lucky enough to have been invited to three art workshops done entirely free - lucky me!
